OVERVIEW

The duration of the Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) program is two years, and the D.Pharm includes classroom learning and practical sessions. Facilities are provided to students for Hospital pharmacy experiences under the guidance of faculty in various clinical and community settings. The university exams are held annually.

PROGRAMME FEATURES

Theory

  1. All the subjects of different courses have 20% for internal assessment and 80% for an annual university examination.
  2. D.Pharm course students should have 75% theory and practical attendance to be eligible for the examination.

 Practical

  1. All the subjects of different courses have 20% for internal assessment and 80% for an annual university examination.
  2. Students with 75% attendance and 50% total internal assessment marks are eligible for   the final university exam.

 Internship

  1. The D.Pharm students have to the practical training shall be not less than five hundred hours spread over a period of not less than three months provided that not less than two hundred and fifty hours and devoted to actual dispensing of Prescriptions .

Minimum marks for passing the examination:
A student secures at least 40% marks in each of the subject separately in theory examination, including sessional marks and at least 40% marks in each of the practical examination including sessional mark

PROGRAMME BENEFITS

The programme enables learners to:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy certificate holders may start practicing as pharmacists in India.
  • They may work at drug stores in Government hospitals, private hospitals, clinics, community health centres or private drug stores.
  • In such a work setup, they usually check prescriptions (made by the Doctor), dispense drugs to patients, give them advice & directions, keep stock of drugs in storage, keep accounts and maintain the inventory.
  • D Pharm certificate holders may even start their own private drug store.
  • Pharmaceutical companies are also known to hire D Pharm folks. In this sector, they may work at divisions/sections like- manufacturing, process control, quality control and marketing.
  • One may also work as a medical representative.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

He/she had passed any of the following examinations in all the optional subjects and compulsory subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and /or Mathematics including English as one of the Compulsory subjects):
10+2 Examination(Academic stream) in Science;
Or
Any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above exam
