Dr. Tayek Talom
Former Director, Higher & Technical Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh
Dr. Tayek Talom is a distinguished academician, higher-education administrator and educationist with more than three decades of dedicated service in the field of higher education, including over 35 years of service to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Dr. Talom began his academic career as a Lecturer in the Higher Education Department of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in 1987. In the early phase of his career, he served as Assistant Registrar (Examinations) at the then Arunachal University, Itanagar, from 1990 to 1993. He subsequently served in various academic and administrative capacities, including as Vice-Principal of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar, and later as Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC), Pasighat.
Dr. Talom served as the Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, for a decade from 2006 to 2017. During his tenure, the college achieved NAAC “A” Grade accreditation and recognition under the Potential for Excellence scheme. He contributed significantly to the academic and institutional development of one of the prominent higher education institutions in Arunachal Pradesh.
In 2017, Dr. Talom was appointed Director of Higher & Technical Education (HTE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar. In this senior administrative position, he was responsible for overseeing and coordinating various aspects of higher and technical education in the State. His tenure involved extensive engagement with government colleges, universities and other higher educational institutions across Arunachal Pradesh.
As Director, Dr. Talom played an active role in academic administration, institutional inspection, student admissions and counselling, infrastructure development, quality enhancement and implementation of higher-education initiatives. He was also associated with the implementation of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in Arunachal Pradesh and undertook inspections of higher educational institutions across the State to review academic and infrastructure development.
His tenure as Director also saw his participation in significant educational collaborations and policy initiatives. In October 2018, he represented the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the British Council, aimed at strengthening educational and cultural cooperation.
Dr. Talom was actively engaged in promoting quality education, academic excellence, student development, career guidance and institutional improvement. His public engagements consistently reflected his emphasis on encouraging students to pursue higher goals, develop competitive capabilities and contribute meaningfully to society.
After a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in higher education and public administration, Dr. Tayek Talom superannuated from Government service on 30 September 2021. At the time of his retirement, he had served the State for more than 35 years.
Dr. Talom continues to contribute his experience and expertise to the higher-education sector. His association with Apex Professional University includes academic and institutional responsibilities, and the University currently lists him among its Academic Senate members.
